As part of a recent supply, Ribel developed full bore ball valves with a single-ball configuration and an integrated drain system, designed for an application where managing the fluid within the cavity was a key design requirement.
During the operation of a ball valve, a portion of the fluid may remain trapped inside the cavity. Under certain operating conditions, this phenomenon can generate internal overpressure, potentially impacting both safety and component integrity.

To address this critical aspect, the developed solution integrates a drain system that allows controlled cavity discharge, enabling direct management of the trapped fluid.
The single-ball configuration also helps simplify the internal geometry of the valve, improving control over the cavity volume and enhancing the predictability of in-service behavior.
The main design objectives of this application were:
- to enable cavity discharge and prevent overpressure caused by trapped fluid
- to improve overall plant operational safety
- to optimize valve design based on actual operating conditions

The result is a targeted solution in which control of internal valve pressure becomes a central element of the design.
